BASF announced today that its specific brand of plastic additives produced at its bases in Kaisten, Switzerland and McIntosh, Alabama, USA have obtained International Sustainable Development and Carbon (ISCC) PLUS certification. This certification will assist BASF in providing more sustainable core plastic additive products using renewable raw materials through the quality balance method, in order to reduce product carbon footprint (PCF).
The ISCC PLUS certification covers all stages of the value chain, ensuring the use of renewable materials, and is an internationally recognized quality balance certification system.
This certification lays a solid foundation for BASF to provide quality balance certification for specific products to its plastic additive customers. As part of quality balance certification, the chain of custody must ensure that the sustainability of the product from the use of renewable raw materials to the final sale meets the requirements. BASF's production bases in Switzerland and the United States are two pilot factories globally implementing this certification.
Dr. Achim Styles, Senior Vice President of BASF's Plastic Additives Business Unit, said, "BASF is the first plastic additive supplier to provide antioxidants certified by Biomass Balance. This is our VALERAS ® Extension of product series. Our customers can now choose more sustainable antioxidant products that are produced from reliable sources and renewable materials, rather than fossil resources, without affecting their performance. We will continue to create new value for plastics with our customers and partners, with a focus on promoting innovation and making significant contributions to sustainable development
