BASF's first enterprise energy storage project in China was officially launched in BASF's Greater China headquarters. This new intelligent energy storage power station is located in BASF Shanghai Pudong Science and Technology Innovation Park (hereinafter referred to as "Pudong Base") and is jointly built by BASF and China Three Gorges Corporation. It uses the world's leading lithium iron phosphate energy storage technology, which can store renewable energy power with a total capacity of 12 MWh in a single cycle, providing a strong guarantee for the sustainable supply of green power in Pudong Base.
The energy storage power station includes four sets of 1MW/3MWh battery energy storage systems and one set of AC/DC conversion system. While stabilizing the operation efficiency of the power grid and ensuring the stability of the base's power, it can also optimize the energy structure, realize the "off peak storage" and "peak shifting and valley filling" of renewable energy power, and improve the comprehensive utilization efficiency.
Bo Yang, Global Senior Vice President of BASF Greater China Operations and Base Management, said: "Energy storage technology is of great significance for building a green energy system. I am very pleased to see that BASF has taken another solid step on the way to explore energy transformation. The new energy storage power station put into use in Pudong Base will further develop the potential of renewable energy, lead BASF's sustainable production and operation, help to achieve the company's 2050 net zero emission goal and support China's dual carbon goal."
Zhou Jiang, Deputy General Manager of Three Gorges Investment Management Co., Ltd., said: "We are very happy to make positive contributions to promoting the development of new energy together with BASF through this cooperation. In the future power system, energy storage equipment will become one of the most important components. We look forward to using BASF's rich operating experience to promote mutual development and achieve win-win results."
BASF is vigorously promoting the use of renewable energy in major production bases in Greater China. As one of the first production bases for BASF to participate in domestic green power trading, BASF Shanghai Pudong Science and Technology Innovation Park (Pudong Base) completed China's first trans provincial green power trading in September 2021. At the same time, BASF Pudong Base has also successively built its own distributed solar photovoltaic power stations in recent years, with an accumulated installed capacity of more than 3MW, and it is estimated that the annual carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 2595 tons.
