Bottle-to-bottle Recycling
Coca-Cola Indonesia's Amatil is seeking to work with packaging partner Dynapack Asia to build a bottle-to-bottle PET recycling facility in Indonesia.
The two companies will collaborate through a proof-of-concept phase, which will consider the economic feasibility, scale, area, and location of potential factories, as well as potential integration with each company's value chain.
Kadil Gunduz, President of Coca-Cola Indonesia, said: "This joint venture represents a real environmental step on the road to a more sustainable plastic and circular economy, by turning low-quality PET waste back to its original quality Of food-grade PET, which is also in line with Coca-Cola's vision of "no waste in the world."
Gunduz added that in 2022, the use of recycled plastics can also reduce the company ’s annual use of new plastic resins by about 25,000 tons. This is in line with the commitment of the Indonesian National Plastics Action Partnership (NPAP) Steering Committee to support the Indonesian National Action Plan to reduce the country ’s marine plastic waste by 70% by 2025.
Dynapack Asia has previously signed with the Allen MacArthur Foundation to use at least 25% recycled resin in its packaging by 2025. Company President Tirtadjaja Hambali said: "This facility is another step towards fulfilling this commitment."
