Polymer materials have become an important part of modern life and industrial development due to their versatility and superior material properties. However, the impact of many petrochemical-based polymers on the environment is worrisome, including greenhouse gases generated during raw material mining and production, and environmental pollution caused by waste plastics.
People's awareness of the impact of modern plastics on the environment has continued to deepen, which has led some leading material manufacturing companies to increase their efforts to develop innovative technologies and alleviate the deterioration of the ecological environment by establishing a circular economy model of plastic manufacturing, utilization, disposal and reuse .
By cooperating with Neste, the DSM Engineering Materials division is moving towards building a comprehensive product portfolio of high-performance, sustainable polymers and carbon footprint reduction.
After 20 years, the company's goal is to provide a full range of high-performance material replacement products that produce polymers from at least 25% recycled plastic waste and bio-based raw materials.
In the first phase of the project, DSM Engineering Materials will gradually replace most of the fossil raw materials used in the production of a series of advanced polyamide and polyester materials.
Manufacturers can track the flow of materials in the production value chain and highlight the content of fossil raw materials being replaced, enabling them to promote and sell materials based on "biological materials" or "recycled materials".
