Spain Develops New Material Of Wood-plastic Bio-based Composite
The European Union BASAJAUN project, led by the Spanish Tecnalia Research Institute, and they plan to build two complete demonstration buildings in Finland and France within 4 years. The project hopes to use as few forest resources as possible while completing the digitization of the entire construction industry value chain. The goal is to optimize the use of forest products and achieve sustainable urban and rural development through new materials and construction systems based on wood recycling economy.
The Spanish Institute of Plastics AIMPLAS is one of the members of the alliance. The OSYRIS project led by him has successfully developed bio-based composite building panels for office and residential interiors. AIMPLAS said it will use its manufacturing experience accumulated in the OSYRIS project to mix resin made from forest products with natural fibers to develop bio-based pultruded profiles. Before manufacturing the final prototype, AIMPLAS will adjust the formula of the produced materials, perform functional verification, check and analyze the processability and combustion performance of the materials, and perform mechanical performance characterization.
