Continental, together with its partner Chuangmeis, demonstrated a world innovation: driver identification display, and its integrated camera solution can be used for driver identification biometrics. This new development project recently won the innovation award in the category of "vehicle technology and advanced mobility" at CES 2023 held in Las Vegas. At the 2023 World Mobile Communication Conference (MWC), held in Barcelona from February 27 to March 2, the display screen will be displayed for the first time in Europe's Tranmax booth (Hall 5, No.5J84). The driver identification display is the world's first vehicle display used in the vehicle interior, which can achieve highly secure non-contact authentication and help prevent fraud and theft attempts.
The face recognition function on smart phones has been familiar to many users, and now this function is gradually applied to the automotive field. Continental and the leading provider of biometric solutions, Chuangmeis, have taken the interaction between drivers and vehicles to a new level. The technology of cooperation between the two can reliably prevent the vehicle from being stolen, because the vehicle can only be started successfully after the driver's identity on the seat is verified successfully. It has improved the convenience of the automobile industry in many cases, such as the digital payment through the car display screen when refueling, parking or paying high-speed gate fees, or car rental. In addition, the technology can also be used for payment of application stores or access to digital services. The built-in camera of the system is used to reliably monitor the driver's attention to prevent driving fatigue and other dangers. For this reason, the new driver identification display jointly developed by Continental and Tramax does not require any additional sensors. The camera is seamlessly integrated into the display screen, and the driver is completely unaware of it.
"The safety identification of vehicle users is an important function of future generations of vehicles. Our driver identification display sets a new standard in terms of safety and comfort," said Philipp von Hirschheydt, head of the Continental user experience business. "The display screen is the key interface between the driver and the vehicle. The driver identification display screen integrates three key functions for the first time: reliable driver authentication, and the option to conduct secure digital payment transactions through the vehicle display screen. The camera is hidden in the system, and can also be used to monitor the driver's attention. In the future, this will become a mandatory technology in Europe - this is a particularly efficient technology "
Prevention of fraud
Integrated facial authentication is based on the patented technology developed by Chuangmeis. It combines face recognition with a new type of live body detection to verify the user's identity: by recognizing the real person's skin, the system can prevent cheating, such as using the photos of legal drivers or lifelike 3D printing masks. Chuangmeis face authentication solution has been certified according to the highest biometric security standard.
"The common goal of Continental and Tramax is to improve the safety and comfort of consumer experience," said Wilfried Hermes, director of consumer electronics in North America and Europe of Tramax. "As an experienced supplier in the automotive industry and a pioneer in Internet mobile technology, Continental has developed new applications for the face authentication technology of Chuangmeis. Thanks to the innovative display technology of Continental, all of this goes hand in hand with the perfect interior design."
